The acquisition

In 2010, BST Canada, along with one of its esteemed partners, acquired a rundown industrial property at 2 Champagne Drive in Toronto with the strategic vision to reinvent the building. After extensive research, evaluation, and testing of the concept at another location, we found that this property was ideal for a medical and wellness center due to its excellent transportation access, growing residential area, ample parking, and proximity to North York General Hospital (which now houses the outpatient clinic within the center). The team then developed a tailored concept for the center.

The building has a rich history. Until the early 1990s, 2 Champagne Drive was home to Canada Dry’s bottling plant, known for its famous ginger ale. Canada Dry had a significant presence here for many years. The name “Champagne Drive” reflects the sparkling nature of Canada Dry’s drinks and its reputation as the “Champagne of Ginger Ales.” We named the building “Champagne Centre” to honor this history.

The Project

The construction and planning team at BST Canada, in collaboration with our strategic partner specializing in the medical field, undertook a repositioning project. This included comprehensive renovations of both the interior and exterior of the building, along with the installation of a supportive, state-of-the-art medical infrastructure.

The Result

Today, the Champagne Centre is a prominent landmark in Toronto, providing both local and distant residents with a cutting-edge health, wellness, and lifestyle center that serves as a comprehensive medical facility. Covering over 270,000 square feet, the center offers a wide range of health services, a multi-sport complex, wellness-focused retail outlets, and numerous professional services. These amenities deliver daily value to people, ensuring quicker access to the care they need.

Future plans for the Champagne Centre involve constructing two additional buildings that will provide 350 rooms for both short-term and long-term stays. These rooms will accommodate patients awaiting treatments or requiring recovery and rehabilitation.

Looking ahead, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of excellence. Our investment strategy emphasizes continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring that the Champagne Centre stays at the forefront of the healthcare industry. By adapting to the evolving needs of our tenants and their patients, we aim to sustain growth and solidify the property’s status as a premier medical center.
