Champagne Centre
A well-known structure in the City of Toronto, offering a revolutionary health, wellness and lifestyle centre that act as a one-stop medical facility.
The acquisition
In 2010, BST Canada, together with one of its esteemed partners, acquired an old rundown industrial property at 2 Champagne Drive in Toronto with a strategic vision to reinvent the building. Our thorough research, evaluation and testing of the concept in another location unveiled the fact that this property was ideal for a medical and wellness centre thanks to excellent transportation access, a growing residential area, ample parking and close proximity to North York General Hospital (the outpatient clinic is now situated right inside the centre). The team proceeded to develop a customized concept for the centre.
The building comes with a rich history. Until the early 1990s, 2 Champagne Drive was the former site of Canada Dry’s bottling plant. Famous for its ginger ale, Canada Dry had a significant presence here for many years. In fact, the Champagne Drive address is a nod to the company’s history, with “Champagne” referencing the sparkling nature of Canada Dry’s drinks, along with its stature for being the “Champagne of Ginger Ales.” We came to name the building “Champagne Centre” as a way to honour its history.
The Project
The construction and planning team at BST Canada collaborated with our strategic partner, whose expertise lies in the medical field, to embark on a repositioning project inclusive of complete renovations on both the interior and exterior of the building, as well as the installment of a supportive, state-of-the-art medical infrastructure.
The Result
Today, the Champagne Centre is a well-known building in the City of Toronto, offering local and faraway residents a revolutionary health, wellness and lifestyle centre that acts as a one-stop medical facility. Spanning over 270,000 square feet, the centre has a variety of health services, a multi-sport complex, wellness related retail outlets and numerous professional services that deliver value to people every day, giving them faster access to the care they need.
Future plans for the Champagne Centre include the development of two additional buildings housing 350 rooms for both short and long-term stays for patients awaiting treatments or in need of recovery and rehabilitation.
Looking forward, we remain dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of excellence. Our ongoing investment strategy focuses on continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring that the Champagne Centre remains at the forefront of the healthcare industry. By adapting to the changing needs of our tenants and their patients, we aim to sustain this growth and solidify the property’s position as a leading medical centre.
